In the early 1980's, Harmony Gold USA acquired the English-distribution licence for three Japanese animated shows: Macross, Southern Cross, and Mospeada. None of these series had enough episodes to get the kind of TV syndication deal that Harmony Gold wanted. So, consultant (later producer), Carl Macek rewrote the plots and dialouge of Southern Cross and Mospaeda to turn them into sequels of Macross. The resulting sci-fi war epic was dubbed Robotech and the rest, as they say, is history...
