Yu Yu Hakusho

Yusuke is a good-for-nothing delinquent who dies in the first chapter/episode. However, since he died doing a good deed the powers in the afterlife aren't sure whether to send him to heaven or to the other place. Yusuke is given a second chance of sorts and his supernatural adventures begin. In early chapters of the manga, Yusuke is a ghost who helps people change their path in life (or sometimes in death when he meets other ghosts). Later, he becomes a sort of special agent for the spirit world. In this role he must infiltrate the demon underworld by participating in a giant no-holds barred fighting tournament. The bulk of the series is action-oriented but there are romantic and dramatic subplots as well. Yu Yu Hakusho is a very popular boy's series in both Japan and America. The YYH manga originally ran in the magazine Shonen Jump in Japan from 1990 to 1994 and is currently (2003-) appearing in the American edition of Shonen Jump.
