This 3 hour mini-series is essentially a retelling of Das Rheingold, but in the sci-fi setting of the Captain Harlock universe. Das Rheingold is the first part of the famous der Ring des Nibelungen, or "Ring Saga" - a series of four operas based on German folklore composed by Richard Wagner between 1848 and 1874. In Das Rheingold, Alberich sets into motion the events of the saga by stealing the magical gold which can grant the power to rule the world to one who sacrifices love.
